Will Jurassic World: Rebirth with Scarlett Johansson Put Asses In Seats?

The latest trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth isn't moving my needle. I'm excited about it nonetheless, since I've been catching up with the franchise in recent years. The algorithm knows this, as it's been showing me more curiosities about dinosaurs that wasn't discovered when I was a kid. That in itself holds my attention. 

The new trailer doesn't show Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard or even the original cast. Jurassic World: Dominion brought back three legacy characters, but they've made what should be their final appearance in this thing to make room for new characters. Really, at this point, Pratt and Howard replace Goldblum, Dern and Neill as throwback characters for a new generation who didn't grown up with the Jurassic Park movies, which is a bit depressing. 

Fortunately, the kids that react to the original trilogy on their YouTube channels are expressing disappointment that they weren't around when those movies were on the big screen. Then at the same time, a movie has to be big enough to lure this generation away from their phones and into theatres. Will Scarlett Jiohansson be able to do that?

Not so much for me. I must have blinked when she held the kind of star power that would entice someone to watch one of her movies. I'm fine with her indie movies but, the Marvel blockbusters certainly didn't do it and I'm sure her taking the lead in a Jurassic World movie won't do it either. 

I'll still get a ticket to go see this, only because it's been a while since I've watched a Jurassic film in the theatre. Shit, Lost World might have been the last one, and I barely remember that experience! I admit that I would be forcing myself, just to see if it might be an experience I can get caught up in just like the original. But the trailer doesn't excite me as much. It seems pretty standard, bringing nothing new. Well, another new dinosaur but they've been doing that with every movie and it's become an old hat.

The popcorn bucket is the only thing adding excitement to the release of this movie. I get me one of those, I'll definitely make the trip to the theatre just for the refills!
