The Only (non)Reason To Not Release Prometheus II Before Alien 5
In reading the news from Vine Report about the scheduling issues of Alien 5 against the release of Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel, I can already sense the groaning of all the Prometheus haters who could give two shits if Scott does a sequel at all.
Their are reports that refer to a anonymous source who is saying that Ridley Scott insists that his sequel be released before Alien 5 and I'm going to agree with him, not only because he's the father of the entire Alien saga but because the release of Alien 5 from a new director will create a similar climate as we saw around the first AVP movie, with a new director on the scene.
The director of Aliens, James Cameron is also mentioned in regard to his Avatar sequel, which already puts two heavy-hitting film veterans in the market for sci-fi against Neill Blomkamp.
Obviously Cameron doesn't have a dog in this fight, but we already know that nothing motivates the studios more than money and Alien 5 would make them a mint so they can do what they want. And as I predicted, people are already starting to throw their weight against Prometheus, asking to clear the way for Blomkamp's film.
Ridley Scott... The Sequel To His Own Crappy Film
[getty src="142660854?et=2v96SvXuRFxAIVB_rTiHnQ&viewMoreLink=on&sig=LXJuHLd4rnuUDyI5V9ZggOuia_uvk14UJzbQI9BzpsM=&caption=true" width="594" height="396"] You would think that a media site by the name of Sentinel Republic would have better writers, because in Tara Martin's write up about this, she makes two mistakes; the first one is to refer to a film in the Alien franchise as the black sheep, without saying what that is. I guess she assumes that we're supposed to either take the fact that the title refers to Prometheus as that black sheep, and carry that thought when we get to the labeling of the bad film or, that Alien 5 is already the black sheep before anything has actually been shot.
The second is where she says:
Yep, it turns out that Ridley Scott is adamant that the sequel to his own crappy film has to be made first.
Where without further explanation as to why she thinks so, it's safe to assume she's just going along with people who hated the first one and not explaining why. Also, she's pretty convinced from cherry picking the bad reviews of the first one that the sequel is already going to be bad, without considering the strange phenomenon where the sequel might be better. But I'm going to go out on a limb here and make up what I think she hated about the first one since I know their type.
Since I've never written a review of the film, I'm gonna straighten this shit out right now.
The main complaint that I've heard about this film has always been that it plays out like a bad science fiction story from the fifties, for the following reasons:
- They rushed to the artifact as soon as they landed. That's not so far-fetched considering the amount of time it took the crew to get to the planet. I would think the agreement would be that they get out there when they get there, and positioning conflict within the group from the beginning is a great start for character development.
- They make stupid decisions. Yes they do. Such as taking off their helmets to breath the air, which is excusable to make the interaction between the characters easier to to deal with. Or not staying away from the life form that starts everything and other dumb things.
The problem with this criticism is that none of the haters are writers so they have no respect for the process of pushing the story along. When you know how to write a story, then you see the film in a very different way that's more tolerant of what it's trying to do.
- Two different endings. This is my problem with it as it is also mildly, Leonard Maltin's, where I wanted to see how the ending would connect with the beginning of the first Alien movie. But it didn't happen and rather than settle that, it went into another direction. Which again, is acceptable to me because it breaks with our expectations.
I remember seeing this the second time with my nephew without telling him it had anything to do with the Alien franchise. It wasn't on purpose as I assumed it was common knowledge. Imagine how surprised he was at the ending and how surprised I was at his surprise?
The Only Other Reason To Release Prometheus II First
So really, the only reason why anyone would want to suggest that Alien 5 come out first is because they have no reasonable solid stance other than ignorant opinion based on nothing, as to why Blomkamp's film should come out first.
I'm also going to wrap this in with two more Alien movies that "fans" have been known to hate, such as Alien Resurrection or Alien 3, which amateur reason giver Tara Martin also seems to hate, judging from her post where she makes clear that Alien 5 won't alter those story lines, something she clearly wants. But then again, it's likely the Neill Blomkamp is the hater here since he's the one attempting that move.
Again, she represents all the naysayers in the history of the franchise which is already well-documented and yet, they're the same people shitting themselves over the fact that the same Ridley Scott will be doing a sequel to Blade Runner, bringing back Harrison Ford.
So the criticism against Prometheus is misdirected and really, should be dismissed. Guys. Just clear the way for Ridley Scott and let the master work, right?
