You've got to be kidding me if you think that Trevor Noah isn't already going to take care of business! Over these last few weeks +, the media has been asking all sorts of ridiculous questions from what Fox News is gonna do without Stewart to what will become of The Daily Show.
Look. They're right that a great era is gone. For almost two decades, I've gone from watching Jon Stewart move from studio to studio before he landed that sweet-ass gig on Comedy Central. I even remember watching the show when Craig Kilborn was on it, breaking into a dance during a bit for no reason whatsoever.
Yes, that was waaaay early in the game. I remember watching the Jon Stewart Show on MTV from the first to the last episode. Howard Stern told him on the first episode that they'd be getting rid of him soon. I saw Marilyn Manson and Dig perform on it, two bands I was really into back then and they also had this really great bit they did of Meaty McGillicutty, which I still have on cassette tape somewhere.

I'm not trying to rub it in, I'm just trying to tell you what the paleolithic era of this comedy was, what it was like in the dark ages before the evolution of satire as we know it today.
Is this mostly the media's fault? Of course it is! Are we eating it up? If those headlines are a indication of what most people are thinking then I will acknowledge the Stewart era was a great one. Does Trevor Noah have big shoes to fill? Of course! Will he be able to? I will go as far as to say they're gonna have to make bigger shoes to fit Trevor Noah.
I think the biggest concern here is if he's going to pull any punches when he's confronted with an assembly line of hypocrites, the corrupt, the ill-mannered right-wingers...
Because when the media was forced to reflect on Jon Stewart after he announced he would be leaving, many have correctly stated that Jon Stewart Was An Angry Host For An Angry Age, which is plain to see. It was that anger that forced people to take notice.
But Trevor Noah... oh boy! This guy is from South Africa, where he used comedy to find a way out. If you've seen the bits he's done on The Daily Show, it got a bit chilly there because of how comfortable he is in going to a dark places, places where people who have a lot to loose don't go. A place where light does not enter, a place where deep-seeded estrangement so abhorrent, digs deep.

Really, who better to hand it off the show than one angry guy to a younger angrier guy? We all remember thinking how odd it was that he would give it to someone we know nothing about.
Well played and from the flanks, Michele Ganeless explained it perfectly as to why he's the top pick.

Maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there, where Fallon looks like he's crumbling under the power of Trevor Noah. I like how he went right into not being able to do comedy on the count of no freedom and that Jimmy had never been to prison. Everyone has a good reason to be nervous about him when he's quite casual and comfortable in his new powers, powers he was destined to have, like the second coming of satirical news.
Just sitting here thinking about how seething he is is making me numb with a contained yet epic rage that we both share, vast like a welkin and as the days to his debut nears, this ancient broken pendent gets heavier and heavier by the minutes, glowing more brightly than yeste...
Um. Just something that's been in my family for years.
The Huffington Post has a nice write up about his spontaneous stand-up set so close to the transition between Stewart and him, where he doesn't hold back on observations of racism. Many would suggest he do some other material and not be so hung up on it, but so far no one will dare confront that.
And anyone trying to would be smarter to leave things alone. If The Daily Show is still the center of attraction for everything satirical, hard hitting commentary on the world's state of affairs, then it's not a good idea to come up against Trevor, unless you want him coming down on you with The Daily Show and all.
Aside from the mentioned guesstimates, there's also a business angle being talked about as far as who the targets might be, suggesting that Fox News isn't Trevor's fight, which would be hard to imagine. It's not like there isn't someone to go after out there.
Could you imagine if the networks decided to de-claw and de-tooth the program? It's never been any less than what it was in the beginning, at it's most different period in comparison to today.
Oh shit. My pendant got lighter. No, Trevor is going to be three-times the assault that Jon Stewart was. I stand by that! Oh boy, I seriously can't wait.
