Christopher Mosley's write up for D-Magazine on this band is pretty spot on when describing what made this band so appealing. If he didn't make a borderline effort to try and compare them to lesser bands -- which he seemed on the verge to do -- he wouldn't have had anything to write about. Leave it to him and his lot to put some spin on things like this, claiming they were probably Dallas' best band?
But I can see right through his crap. If anything, it gets readers to check out a band that's now defunct. Yes, they took their time in their sets for the music. If you listen to some of their stuff, it's careful and gentle, for much longer than I have the patience for. I'm also going to put this out there, that Eric Michener of Fishboy has his hands all over that video you see above, scoring points for cuteness. Also, the write up makes these comparisons to Cocteau Twins and bands of days gone past that certainly ages the dude but it almost seems like he's in the way of letting me decide if I like this band or not.
Wait a minute... I'm talking about these other people who have nothing to do with Layer Cake! Sorry.
