Yesterday I wrote about the small business owner from Tennessee who put two signs up in the window of his hardware store, the first one read "No Gays Allowed", which was replaced by a less hostile but still intolerant sign against same-sex customers.
In that post I mentioned that the owner also has a radio program on WNTT 1250 AM, in the area where he likely spews the same kind of hate against people of the same sex and likely, mixes it together with religious garbage to all of their ignorant, backwoods, in-bred listeners.
I emailed the station yesterday to see if they had anything to say about the Reverend Jeff Amyx and I received the following response:
I do not have a response. This is a commercial radio station. These ministers pay for their time by the minute. I have one rule, "You cannot talk about each other. Whatever else you preach is left up to you. You pay for your time." Sincerely, Aileen S. Craft
I won't go into the moral issues of money over civil rights -- as I'm sure we all know where consensus directs us in that case -- because this is really no different from the disclaimer from other stations that do the same thing.
Pressuring a radio station is also nothing new as many who disagreed with Stern, Limbaugh or other controversial jocks never really won that fight.
I would say however, that maybe with the same pressure the public is applying to douse Trump, could be used to shut down this guy's hardware store so he can no longer pay to use the station.
Of course, as the article I referred to about this says, we still haven't accepted the fact that religious indoctrination is wrong and so this guy will still be able to pay for his weekly broadcast time because he'll still be conning ignorant people to give him money for the lord because we're gonna let him!
