Last years Sonic Youth show was a very memorable part of my life that started off welll then ended in tragedy as I rejected a good friend of mine, who I will never speak or see again (not really so hard to do), and I never could get myself to hear anything past 'Reena', but the day would come that Sonic Youth would erase that terrible event, and Thurston Moore's Trees Outside The Academy redirects my purpose and reinvents Moore. If you never had a copy of Psychic Hearts, then look hard for that out-of-print beauty.

'White Chalk' - (released 09.24.07)

on P.J. Harvey's latest release, she takes the only other approach that a long time performer has... to try another instrument. Trent Reznor realized this long ago on the Fragile and the end result was epic to say the least.
On "White Chalk", Harvey takes her minimalism to more humbled heights. on to "Broken Harp" she builds this shadowy reflection of her vulnerability that takes on a life of it's own, tragic and breaking, wallowing knee deep in ill-love.
"oh something, metal
tearing my stomach out,
if you think ill of me
can you, can you
forgive me,
forgive me"
I got pretty caught up with these songs so much that, it's inspired something that I've been looking for. I certainly didn't expect the delicate and softness of her delivery... it's actually quite spooky.
