(TheInquisitr) - Over the past couple of years the call for Apu's retirement has grown louder among the Indian-American community. We could even say Asian-American or not at all as an example of how sensitive things are with this.
Not to fan the flames because really, when you look at it from the beginning, the Apu character on The Simpsons is created from a bunch of stereotypes. And so it's appropriately jarring when the character makes an appearance, especially since we know that it's a white guy doing his voice.

In the referenced article by TheInquisitr, there is the anticipation that the destruction of the Kwik-E-Mart might mark the end of the Apu character.
This is further confirmed with the fact that of the loudest voices mentioned, many come from actors who have been in the Mindy Project, one of who would be playing the new character, Apu's nephew Jay.
Once in the program, Apu 'mistakenly' calls Jay Sanjay and then corrects himself, but then later in the show, Apu calls him out for being a stereotypical millenial.
The episode takes shots at other stereotypes as well in a way where it the creators are obviously laughing at themselves but none of it made the fact that a white guy is still doing a stereotypical Indian impersonation any better.

As The Simpsons it's classic Matt Groening comedy which despite what some people seem to think, nothing has changed.
The writing is great, the stories are awesome and the jokes keep coming to the point where I'm sad to know that it's still a 30 minute show, but the Apu character has got to fucking go!
