This Rock Star Would Have Made Headlines Accidentally Killing Bruce Lee's Son in 93.

Punk rocker Iggy Pop is making headlines right now for a dramatic exit to a concert where he was carried out in a coffin.

The guy is 78 and at that age, the thoughts of the self's mortality is always there.

Who better to lean into the subject of death than Iggy?

Personally, I didn't really get into The Stooges until the late '90s into the early '00s.

It would have been around the time that "Lust For Live" was popular thanks to Trainspotting (1996) and "Candy" was already a long time hit single.

But I had already seen and was a fan of The Crow: City of Angels which he was in, and remembered being excited to see him playing a villain.

Years before that sequel, he was featured as the voice of the DJ in one of my favorite movies, Hardware (1990).

Being a fan of the The Crow graphic novel, I remembered he would have been famous for something else had there not been scheduling conflicts.

It was 1994 and news had already been around that Brandon Lee was accidentally killed on the set of The Crow. It had almost been over a year since his death and hands had changed from Paramount to Miramax  before it was released in May.

I saw this movie in a private screening and walked out super-pissed at what they had done to the story. You can see my thoughts about it when I reacted to the trailer for 2024 release of The Crow.

What freaks me out when I think about it, is that Iggy Pop was up for the role as Funboy in that original which makes sense since James O'Barr modeled the character after him. Such was the case with some of the other characters being modeled after Peter Murphy and other punk or goth rock heroes.

We know that the actor who ended playing Funboy (Michael Massee) was the one who fired the gun that killed Brandon Lee.

What would have happened if Iggy Pop had been the one, because what we know is that no matter what, the accident would have still happened.

Unfortunately, we would end up losing Massee in 2016 but no doubt, up until then, there's no doubt that it bothered him.

The sequels that followed, until 2024's film, would still use squibs and blanks on set, especially Iggy Pop in City of Angels.
